Scrapyard Fire in Big Spring

On Wednesday afternoon, the Howard County Volunteer Firefighters responded to a fire at a metal scrapyard on S. HWY 87 in Big Spring. Howard County Judge Randy Johnson and HCVFD Chief Eric Barber reported that the fire was caused by a mechanical failure in the baler that crushes metal into cubes. The fire involved crushed cars made of metal and fabric. Despite the large amount of smoke drifting towards town, there were no concerns about toxic chemicals.
