  • ***For the tomato sauce:***
  • 3 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
  • 5 cloves garlic chopped
  • 1/4 teaspoon red chili flakes
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 28-ounce jar tomato sauce
  • 2 tablespoons fresh basil minced, can substitute 2 teaspoons dried basil
  • 2 tablespoons fresh oregano minced, can substitute 2 teaspoons dried oregano
  • ***For the pizzaiola:***
  • 2 1/2-3/4-inch-thick steaks, such as rib-eye
  • salt to taste
  • black pepper to taste
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1/2 cup white wine
  • fresh parsley leaves to taste, for garnish

  • Step 1- In a large pot over medium-high heat, add 3 tablespoons of the olive oil.
  • Step 2 - Add the garlic and the red chili flakes to the heated oil and cook, about 1-2 minutes.
  • Step 3 - Add the tomato paste to the garlic-chili flake mixture and cook, about 4-5 minutes.
  • Step 4 - Decrease the heat to medium-low. Add the tomato sauce, the basil, and the oregano to the sauce mixture and simmer, about 40-45 minutes.
  • Step 5- Season both sides of the steaks with the salt and the black pepper.
  • Step 6 - In a large skillet over medium-high heat, add the remaining olive oil.
  • Step 7 - Add the seasoned steaks to the heated oil and sear, about 2-3 minutes per side.
  • Step 8 - Transfer the seared steaks to a plate and cover to keep them warm.
  • Step 9 - In the same skillet, add the white wine and use a wooden spoon to loosen the browned bits from the bottom of the skillet. Cook until the wine reduces, about 3-4 minutes.
  • Step 10- Add the sauce mixture to the white wine mixture and stir to combine. Cook, about 5 minutes.
  • Step 11 - Add the seared steaks to the sauce and cook until the beef reaches an internal temperature of at least 135 degrees F for medium-rare doneness, about 4-6 minutes per side.
  • Step 12- Serve the steaks topped with the sauce and garnished with the fresh parsley.
